Books WA Profile |
|
Books WA is a locally produced 26 minute program which will be aired on
Channel 31 Perth. The program gives an avenue for local writers, authors and
publishers to promote their books and to encourages readers into reading
more books, particularly Western Australian literature. The program content
consists of interviewing local authors about their published work, reader's
reviews and handy hints for writers.
The guest author is asked about their methods of writing and why writing it
is important to them and the viewing public. The reader's review segment is
mostly reviewing local books, in which the guest reviewer talks about a book
they've read and why it's a good read. Another segment is a "Handy Hints for
Writers", giving the viewer hints and tips about writing from their first
sentence to copyright issues. We also offer the Books WA viewer an
opportunity to win the featured book in each episode by answering a simple
question, about what was said during the interview.
Books WA Objectives:
•
The State Literature Officer feels that such a program would be of great
benefit to the advancement of local literature, and Kim Beasley a leading
Australian politician has spoken in similar terms.

The Concept |
|
Books WA started with
Kelvin realizing that Perth needed an avenue for local writers and authors
to promote their books and to encourage readers into reading more books,
particularly Western Australian literature. He then went on a research
mission through book stores, libraries and book cafes around Perth, asking
managers, customers and general readers if they thought a locally produced book show was a good idea. Their responses were positive in all aspects and now we have that program "BooksWA". |

|
Program Design |
|
The show location is
designed to complement both the author and their work, depending on the
theme and topic of the book. One such half episode was a book called
“Letters on the Swan” which we filmed at Kings Park and at the South Perth
foreshore. We also film anywhere where readers can read and buy these
books, such as book stores and in particular bright and vibrant Book Cafes
located around Perth, where the atmosphere is very warm, relaxing,
comfortable and aesthetically pleasing for the viewing audience. |
